Tumblr is one of the many micro blogging sites that are available on the internet. Setting up Tumblr
The firs thing that you have to do in order to start using Tumblr is obviously to set up an account. Like most web based services it is actually quite easy to do this and you will soon be able to start using your Tumblr account in earnest. It doesn’t take long at all. Simply:
- Go to the homepage of Tumblr. You can do this by typing the word ‘Tumblr’ into the Google search bar, or you can type the website address directly into the URL. The address is www.Tumblr.com. Remember that the Tumblr account is free so you will not be losing anything by going to this website.
- The next thing you will have to do is sign up. When you open the Tumblr homepage you will see that they have really gone out of their way to make everything as simple for you as possible. You will simply have to type in your email address, the password you would like to use and the URL you would like to blog from and then click on the ‘Start Posting!’ option. As it was mentioned previously this website is one of the few micro blogging sites that try to make the entire process as easy as possible. You will also notice that there is a “Login” option in the top right hand corner. This is the link that you will click on if you are returning to Tumblr once you already have an account.
- A big part of any blog is how it looks, it is therefore a good idea to look at Tumblr.com/Themes in order to find the perfect theme for your site. You need to choose something that suits your personality down to the ground, but also something that you like. What sort of things are you planning to blog about? This is an important question to ask yourself when choosing your theme because the theme and the content have to match up. - At first you should keep things simple. Don’t worry about other things; just keep on blogging and adding as much content as you can to your blog. It is no use writing like crazy one day, and then leaving it for weeks. Rather time your queue to upload things at convenient times that will allow your work to be staggered and will keep your readers interested. The best time spacing is generally considered to be once every few hours. If you want consistent content throughout the day then this is by far the best way to achieve that.
- You also need to select the specific time frame during which these posts should appear. You don’t want new posts to be appearing at night for example when most of your readers may be sleeping or otherwise engaged. In fact it is generally thought that 12pm to 9pm is the best time span for your posts to be uploaded. According to Tumblr statistics this is when the most people are actively reading new posts on Tumblr.
- Now all you have to do is keep the Queue stocked up. If you are going away, for example, all you need to do is write a lot of fresh content in the week preceding when you leave so that you will not appear to be inactive on your blog. You will be surprised at how many people will want to keep up to date with what you are writing on your blog, and you need to make sure that there is always something new and fresh for them to see.

Tumblr is also a great place to get to know other bloggers and find other blogs similar to your own to read. To do this go to the search bar on your Tumblr page. Type in key words that are related to the topics you have posted on, and that you are interested in. Tumblr will present you with a list of results that match or partially match your search and you will be able to use this to make the most of your Tumblr registration. To draw attention to yourself on Tumblr you can ‘Like’ the posts that appealed to you and you can even ‘Reblog’ them in order to make your mark on Tumblr.
