Creating a Blog

Creating a blog on BlogSpot is easier than you may think. There are in fact some very basic steps that you can follow in order to ensure your success with your blogging. The steps are as follows:

The first thing that you will have to do is to sign up with BlogSpot. To do this you will have to go to www.blogger.com. On this page there will be a ‘Sign me up’ link. Click on this and fill in the required fields. You will need to specify the username that you would like to use, as well as a password. You will also have to type in a valid email address. Use your Gmail address is you have one. You will also have to create a URL which will of course need to be original, and you will have to give your blog a title. The more catchy your title the more popular your blog is likely to be.

You will then have the opportunity to start designing how your blog can look. BlogSpot has a number of templates that you can choose from. Look through them carefully before deciding which one best suits your personality and that matches up with what you envision the aim of your blog to be. There are also other settings that you will have to carefully consider apart from the design of your blog. Presentation is also important as and you will have to decide on such things as how many columns you would like your information to be presented in on your blog. Once you have finalised your decisions, a choice which should definitely not be made lightly, click “Apply to blog”, which is a button that will be clearly visible on the design page.

The next step once you have decided on the design is to play around with the settings on your blog. There is a “settings” option for you to click on, and it fairly self explanatory what you will be able to do with the various settings. For example, you can edit the title of your blog, which is something that you may end up doing more often then you may think. There is also the opportunity to write a short description about what the blog is about and what you plan to write about and achieve with your blog. There are a number of privacy settings that you will have to confirm and decide on, and you will also have the opportunity to decide which search engines will have access to your blog. If you plan to have adult content on your blog than you will also have to specify this in order to protect the younger generation fro this content.

You will then have to decide on the widgets that you want to use on your blog. For example, you may want to include a search widget in order to allow visitors to your blog to find specific items on your blog. Other widgets you could include are links to Facebook and so on. There is also the opportunity for you to create a list of other blogs that you like and that support the ideas you express in your own blog for people to refer to for more information or ideas on the topics you discuss.

The time has now come to write your first post. Before you reach this stage you have to be absolutely certain that you are happy with the design of your blog, because once you start posting, this is when things get serious. In order to post you need to click on “Posting” in the toolbar and then click on “New Post”. This will give you your first opportunity to express yourself on your very own blog. You will be required to enter text into both the title field as well as the main field in order for your post to go through. Write a title that is relevant to the subject matter but that is also eye-catching and that will attract people who want to read about that particular subject. You can use all of the same functions as in Word in order to make your text look more interesting. If you want to add pictures to your blog then you simply click on the “Picture” button. This will allow you to select and upload a picture form your computer. To add a video you will need to edit the HTML by clicking on the relevant icon and then pasting the imbedded URL of the video into the relevant field. You can also add labels to the post which will allow visitors to search the document more easily. Click on “Preview”, proofread your post, and then “Publish Post”.
