AOL email is one of the many great email services out there, and when you sign up you will have free access to the AOL website. It is also easy and simple to use. If you have been struggling with your account, some of the basics on how to use AOL email are listed below. I hope that you find them useful and that you are now able to use your email account without any trouble at all.

Steps for using AOL Email

Sign Up

The first step to using AOL is obviously to open an account with AOL. To this you simply need to go to free.aol.com in order to open your free account with AOL.

• Provide all of the information that AOL requires in order for you to continue with your application process. The information you will have to include is your address, phone number, and email address. This information will not be given out to anybody.
• Once you have successfully completed this information, click the Continue button in order to go on with the application process for you AOL email account.
• You will then have to create the AOL email address that you would most like to use. This will of course need to be unique. Your email address will automatically end with aol.com, and you can choose an address that is longer than 3 characters, but shorter than 16 (excluding the aol.com tag). In this email address you will be able to use both numbers and letters.
• As with practically everything else that you have created account for in the past on the internet, you will then have select a password. This password needs to be between 6 and 8 characters long and once again you will be able to use both letter and numbers in this password. You will have to type the password twice in order to confirm it.
• The next thing that you will have to do is agree to the service terms. It is a good idea to actually read these terms before clicking ‘Agree’, not because there is likely to be anything dodgy that is hidden in the terms, but rather because it is good practice and a good habit to have when agreeing to the terms of anything.
• You will then have to select the credit card you plan to pay for the service with. Once the payment has gone through your AOL email account will then be activated and you will be able to start using this fantastic email service.

Sign In

Once you have activated your AOL email account you will then be in a position to start using it. The first thing you will then have to do is sign in to your email account. There are several ways to do this. One is directly from the homepage of AOL. Here are the basic steps you can follow in order to achieve this:

• Open a new browser and navigate to the AOL email homepage.
• On the AOL homepage there will be an orange AOL Mail icon on the left which you will then have to click on in order to reach the sign in page of the website
• Once you have found the sign in page, you should then type in your username and password and continue to your email account

The second way to sign in to your email account is also from the AOL website. This is for people who have been browsing the website and have decided to check their mail. The steps for this are as follows:

• From the AOL website you should be able to go to the My Stuff icon, and, by going through all of the options under this heading, you will soon come across My Email which is blue
• You will now have the option of either selecting this blue icon to go to the AOL email homepage, or by alternatively clicking on the Sign in to my email option directly beneath this blue email
• Once you have found the sign in page, you should then type in your username and password and continue to your email account

To sign in to your free email account you will have to follow a slightly different procedure:

• On the left side of the AOL homepage you should be able to find Services, which you should then click on
• Under the heading of Services you should soon come across a link that says Downloads – click on this link
• Under the heading of Downloads you will find Free Email which you should then click on
• The sign in page should then load
• Once you have found the sign in page, you should then type in your username and password and continue to your email account

Reading Mail

Once you have your AOL email account set up you are ready to start receiving and reading emails:

• Sign in to your account and have a look at all of the news that the AOL homepage has to offer
• Go to the Inbox link in order to see your mail
• Any new emails that you have received since the last time you were there will be written in bold font in order to indicate that you have not already read them
• Select the email that you would like to read
• Click on the subject of the email that you have decided to read
• Below the inbox a pane will appear with the contents of the email that you will be able to scroll through until you have read all of the information that the email contains
• If you want to view the email in full screen you simply need to double click on the subject line
• Once you have read the email, choose an action
• You can either delete, reply to, save, or ignore the emails that you are sent
